Origami Folding Kayaks For your Next Adventure

This summer we hosted a demo morning for Oru – a foldable ‘origami’ kayak brand who were keen to showcase their product to London-based media.

Our coaching team that day included Dan – our Operations Director and he really liked the kayaks – as did the other coaches who got the chance to try them.  They immediately got the flexibility and ease of storage and transport. This is possible with inflatable kayaks but these in our experience offer performance much lower than plastic or fiberglass kayaks.

As kayakers at heart (we only started with SUP in 2011 after many years of kayaking)  are really excited about working with Oru.  This partnership takes us back to our roots and the kayaks overcome the downsides of owning a kayak ( they take up a lot of space, are heavy, generally require cars to transport them).

Now almost anyone can own a kayak one way river trips using public transport are very appealing and manageable.

You can throw it on your back, fly with it and take it to remote areas.  So an Oru can expand your paddling world quite dramatically. 

You also won’t have to be concerned about leaving a kayak on a vehicle roof in a car park where it’s  prone to theft as you can stow it away out of site  inside the vehicle or fold it and carry it inside the pub / cafe with you.

This means you can own a quick, light and durable kayak without needing a vehicle to transport it around.

Unfolding and folding is easy and takes minutes and a one way trip – out by train – back by river is straightforward.

We think that trying before you buy is sensible with any sports kit and we offer demo sessions on the tidal Thames our knowledgeable and very experienced coaches. If you book one you will get a guided trip, a full intro to your chosen demo model including how to fold and unfold plus a few tips on paddling technique if required.
